Biography

Milton Rhodes headed the Arts Council of Winston-Salem from 1971 – 1985, when he resigned to become president and CEO of the American Council for the Arts, which is now a part of Americans for the Arts. While president of the American Council for the Arts, he served on the board of Independent Sector for six years.  Rhodes later served as vice president for development of Outward Bound USA; first president of the Northern Winchester Hospital Center Foundation in Mount Kisco, NY; and general manager of Charleston's Spoleto Festival. His wife, Mattie, was a flutist in the Winston-Salem Symphony for more than 15 years. They have three boys and three granddaughters.
