American Express Foundation Supports Future Leadership for Arts
Education
The American Express Foundation is sponsoring the National
Guild’s Community Arts Education Leadership Institute, a
seven-month intensive program for current and aspiring leaders advance
their skills by engaging with top leadership trainers and nationally

Creative Marketing with Music
Volkswagen’s Fun Theory campaign brought music to marketing when
they transformed a public staircase into a digital piano in Sweden. The
campaign soon went viral and is still garnering attention by those

Launch of the Southern Arizona Business Committee for
the Arts
The Southern Arizona Arts and Cultural Alliance (SAACA) has launched a
new local affiliate of the Business Committee for the Arts. Along with
the BCA affiliate program, SAACA will now have a greater reach to its
local community, businesses, artists, and entertainers through a

Decline in Portion of All Philanthropic Dollars Going
to the Arts
The portion of all philanthropic giving going to the arts dropped from
4.9 percent to 4.0 percent during the past decade, according to the
Americans for the Arts second annual National Arts Index. The scores
and the findings demonstrate that the arts follow the nation’s
business cycle: the 2009 Index score of 97.7 is the lowest Index score
in the 12 years measured by the Index, down from 101.3 in 2008. For

Heir to the Cargill Corporation May Become Third-Wealthiest Grantmaker
The settling of Margaret A. Cargill’s estate, the late heir to
the Cargill Corporation, may produce $9 billion in philanthropic
dollars. Folk art and Native American art are included in the giving
guidelines of the two foundations she established. The Margaret A.
Cargill Foundation is expected to start grantmaking to arts and culture
