Decline in Portion of All Philanthropic Dollars Going to the Arts
The portion of all philanthropic giving going to the arts dropped from 4.9 percent to 4.0 percent during the past decade, according to the Americans for the Arts second annual National Arts Index. The scores and the findings demonstrate that the arts follow the nation’s business cycle: the 2009 Index score of 97.7 is the lowest Index score in the 12 years measured by the Index, down from 101.3 in 2008. Heir to the Cargill Corporation May Become Third-Wealthiest Grantmaker

The settling of Margaret A. Cargill’s estate, the late heir to the Cargill Corporation, may produce $9 billion in philanthropic dollars.
