John Abodeely
Arts Education Manager
John Abodeely joined the staff of Americans for the Arts in August 2005. As arts education manager, John leads the Arts Education Network, a national network of 5,000 individuals and organizations that share a common goal—the advancement of arts education in communities across the country. The network’s constituents include arts and arts education professionals, artists, educators, and community leaders who work to improve access to and quality of arts education. John oversees national partnerships, professional development services, field events, and peer-to-peer communications. John’s work is supported by the Arts Education Council, an advisory council of Americans for the Arts that is composed of local and national experts.
Americans for the Arts currently serves the field of arts education professionals through partnerships, information, and research that addresses systemic impact, including creating improved policy, influencing policy-makers, and impacting the complex web of education decision makers from the national level down to the school.
His previous work includes statewide arts advocacy and technical assistance for community-based arts education, and placing teaching artists in afterschool youth service facilities. John earned his B.A. cum laude in biology and fine arts at Amherst College.
