Harlem Opera Theater is a non-profit 501 C3, all-volunteer organization. The annual budget is less than $100,000. The organization is funded by community, government and foundation grants, individual donations from The Friends of Harlem Opera Theater and ticket sales.

All Federal Form 990 and State Form CHAR 500 filings are up to date.

We are requesting a volunteer with accountant skills to assist with the annual filing of Federal Form 990; FY16 (August 1, 2015 – July 31, 2016). The FY 16 filing deadline is December 15, 2016.

All of our books and records will be up to date when we meet with the volunteer/accountant In late September. The task of the volunteer/accountant will be to summarize and post our revenue and expenses on the Federal form 990 to file taxes.

In the past, we have met with the volunteer/accountant, provided our materials, review revenue and expenses; and answer questions about the operation of Harlem Opera Theater before the filing of our taxes:

Position Description:
We are seeking dance lovers to serve on the board of Jazz Choreography Enterprises (JCE). Founded in 2007, JCE is dedicated to keeping the great American art of jazz dance thriving by producing dance concerts featuring original works of jazz dance and providing educational opportunities to audiences and dance artists. Our board is currently small (five directors) and very hands-on. The only paid staff consists of our Co-Artistic Directors, who receive small stipends for various projects. There is no training required, but we need board members to attend meetings (in person, no Skyping), bring their ideas, and be willing to follow through with projects/activities (each person takes on specific tasks). The board members also communicate through emails, so help is always available if needed. Depending on our board members’ skills, this could mean working the ticket desk, writing grant proposals, researching a legal issue, making inquiries regarding opportunities for JCE to reach a broader audience, etc.

We expect all board members to actively participate in fundraising, which includes reaching out to contacts for donations, as well as planning and assisting at various fundraising events. Board members are also asked to build support for JCE and its mission, evaluate the running of the organization, and assist at events and performances as needed. Although we would welcome anyone who believes in our organization and is willing to work at fundraising, we are especially seeking people with expertise in one of these areas: grant writing, law (especially nonprofit), social media, event planning, corporate giving/sponsorships, community outreach. In addition to seeing some wonderful dance performances, board members have the pleasure of helping dance artists gain opportunities to further their careers and to keep a culturally significant American art form thriving.

Purpose:
The purpose of the position is to help JCE achieve its mission of keeping jazz dance thriving. We hope new board members will work to ensure that JCE is run in an efficient and ethical way and to help secure the necessary support, which will enable it to achieve its goals.

Dance to Unite, Inc. Is in need of volunteer dance teachers and teacher assistants. Both positions require applicants to have some background in dance as well as a strong interest and desire to teach and make a positive difference in the lives of children and youth of various age groups (6-14 years old).

Volunteer dance teachers and assistants are provided with training as soon as they join our team to become familiar with our organization's mission and goals, policies and procedures, program design and potential impact.

Training is provided both one-on-one in the classroom setting as well as in a group setting and includes hands-on practical strategies for implementing our educational component, tips for leading a proper warm up exercise routine and practical tools on how to choreograph a dance routine for children who don't have prior dance experience.

Responsibilities for volunteer dance teachers:

• Be comfortable with implementing our educational component which includes leading our 5-10 minutes 'Circle Talk' where the teacher and students sit in a circle in the beginning of each class to learn and explore one of our '13 steps to Unity' modules.
• Volunteer teachers are provided with a step-by-step guide which describes and explains in detail how to teach each module effectively and successfully. Additionally, we provide supervision, guidance and support to volunteer teachers to ensure they are fully prepared to implement our educational component.
• Creating and teaching a year-round dance routine/choreography.
• Facilitating one special guest artist workshop (which is offered to each Dance to Unite, Inc. Class throughout the year) by briefing students about the style of dance or other artistic medium which is explored that day and collaborating with all those involved in making the workshop a success.

Responsibilities for volunteer teacher assistants:

• Generally speaking teachers assistants are required to assist and support the teacher in fulfilling her duties.
• Participating in the weekly warm up exercise routine led by the teacher.
• Learning the choreography taught by the lead teacher by rehearsing the dance routine with the classroom.
• Assisting the lead teacher with managing the classroom by addressing and redirecting inappropriate behaviors as needed.
• Periodically taking pictures or videos for our social media (using a camera phone)

Chamber Orchestra of New York, the city’s most dynamic young professionals’ orchestra, was founded in honor of Ottorino Respighi – the preeminent early twentieth century Italian composer whose compositions bridge the classical and modern traditions. Founded by Metropolitan Opera Assistant Conductor Joan Dornemann and Metropolitan Opera Conductor Paul Nadler in 1986, the International Vocal Arts Institute is a non-profit organization dedicated to finding and training the most talented young opera singers around the world. Board of Directors are expected to help support this mission through innovative and traditional ways.

TADA!’s mission is two-fold: to present high-quality musical theater productions performed by talented kids for family audiences; and to provide a safe, creative and nurturing place where kids can harness their inherent energy, build their self-esteem and realize their true potential through the unique collaborative art form that is musical theater.  Young people gain confidence and learn commitment, responsibility, communication, and teamwork—skills that are critical to their success in both school and life.  TADA! is a place where they can develop their individual talents while being a vital part of a larger family group.
