Katherine Haskel is a Community Site Manager at Big Thought (The 2009 recipient of the Americans for the Arts “Arts Education Award”). In her role, Katherine is instrumental in creating and facilitating programs that address academic achievement and youth development, by connecting classroom objectives and traditional teaching methods with art, culture, and creative learning. She is also a member of the Advocacy committee.
Prior to joining the Big Thought staff, she worked in the Education and Curatorial Departments at the Tennessee State Museum where she developed and implemented educational programs in art and culture for diverse audiences. In addition, she worked as a Research Assistant at the Center for Historic Preservation at Middle Tennessee State University. In this position, she assisted with several projects in preservation, heritage education, and exhibit development.
Katherine is also an active representative of her professional community through memberships and leadership roles. She is a founding member of North Texas Emerging Arts Leaders (NTEAL), and serves as Chair of the Dallas organization. She is a member of Junior League of Dallas, being primarily interested in Arts and Cultural Community Enrichment, Education, and Poverty Intervention. Katherine is also a United Way Ambassador, and is involved with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Dallas.
She holds a Master’s Degree in Public History with an emphasis in Museum Studies from Middle Tennessee State University, a Bachelor’s Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from Tennessee State University, and an Associate’s Degree in Marketing Management from Jones Junior College.
