Mari Horita has been involved in ArtsFund for more than 15 years. A former ArtsFund trustee, she served as co-chair of the Workplace Giving Committee, helping to develop and implement workplace giving strategies in donor companies, resulting in significant increases in overall yield and participation levels. She also served as co-chair of the Marketing Committee. Before joining the board, she chaired the young professionals’ volunteer group, the Associates, and she has served as a faculty presenter for the Board Leadership Training program.
Ms. Horita has an extensive background in civic and community involvement and has served on a number of nonprofit boards, including the Japanese American Chamber of Commerce, Japan America Society, the Asian Bar Association of Washington, Washington Appleseed, and Youthcare. She currently serves on the boards of the United Way of King County, Bertschi School, Densho, and on the Honorary Board of the Executive Development Institute.
Ms. Horita has been a guest lecturer for Seattle University’s Masters in Nonprofit Leadership program, the United Way's Project Lead, as well as other board training programs, speaking on legal responsibilities of nonprofit board members as well as governance issues in Washington. She is a recipient of the Washington State Bar Association’s Professionalism Award for her service in the community.
A lawyer by training, Ms. Horita was managing director at the Seattle office of Major, Lindsey & Africa from 2008 through December 2011. Ms. Horita holds a B.A. in Asian Studies from Pomona College, a J.D. from the University of Washington School of Law, and a Masters in Nonprofit Leadership from Seattle University.
