Imagine Art Here: Tysons Tiles
PROJECT OVERVIEW
Tysons Tiles temporary public art project engaged the community and demonstrated the potential for public art, fostered community participation in and understanding of public art, shared community opinions in an innovative way, and produced a work of art that invigorated public space and became a destination. Using the Tysons Trolley, the artist engaged the community at 26 sites to get input on the role of the arts at Tysons. Responses to three questions were entered into a custom i-pad app, and each participant received an artist-designed three sided cube pin. 770 community responses were downloaded from the app and analyzed. The artist used the data to design ground murals for Tysons West and Greensboro Green Park and wrap a shuttle bus. Each person’s perspective was represented in the ground murals. A web app ("virtual" trolley) continued to collect feedback on-line. Results informed the Master Arts Plan for Fairfax County.
