Description:

'Sky Reflector-Net' is integrated within a conical architectural form that fills the centerpiece of Fulton Center where 9 subway lines converge and are topped by a retail complex, designed to reclaim Lower Manahttan's civic space after 9/11. Nearly 10,000 stainless steel components, 112 tensioned cables and 224 high-strength rods make up the artwork. The soaring cable-net is attached to 952 aluminum panels that distribute and reflect sunlight down to Fulton Center's lowest levels where nine subway lines converge. The artwork combines beauty and function, reduces energy consumption and gives visitors a tangible sense of daylight. The subtly responsive faceted surface draws the eye upward to the ephemeral, diurnal and seasonal rhythms of the sky while driving daylight underground into the horizontal network of the city's subway system. The artwork transposes an experiential quality of light through an integrated, beautiful sculptural installation.
