Maryo Gard Ewell

Selina Roberts Ottum Award for Arts Leadership


Maryo Gard Ewell of Gunnison, CO co-manages the Creative Districts program for Colorado Creative Industries, and teaches online for the Arts Administration program at Goucher College, for the Arts Extension Service at the University of Massachusetts and for Western State Colorado University. She’s worked for community arts councils in Connecticut and for state arts agencies in Illinois and Colorado. She is a recent board member of the Gunnison Arts Center and the Community Foundation of the Gunnison Valley. Honors include the Arts Advocate of the Year award from the Gunnison Arts Center; the Arts Are The Heart award for service to the arts in Colorado; an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree from Goucher College; and in 1995 the Selina Roberts Ottum Award from Americans for the Arts. She’s written many articles, and co-authored The Arts in the Small Community 2006. She holds an M.A. in Organizational Behavior and an M.A. in Urban & Regional Planning.
