The 9th Annual GI Film Festival presents both classic and premier films celebrating the heroic stories of the American Armed Forces and the worldwide struggle for freedom and liberty. This unique film festival will be held in the Washington DC area just before the Memorial Day weekend to honor the courage and selflessness of American troops. The GI Film Festival includes dozens of film screenings and presentations by award-winning Hollywood actors and directors and panel discussions with soldiers, journalists, authors, and filmmakers.  GIFF15 West is scheduled for the Fall season.

The GI Film Festival, led by those who have served in uniform and their families, is a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the stories of military veterans past and present. The GI Film Festival also promotes the creative work of military veteran filmmakers and helps train members of the U.S. Armed Forces for success in the entertainment industry.

Offering “cinematic, edge-of-your-seat awesomeness” the GI Film Festival schedule will feature the North American Premiere of “KAJAKI: The True Story”, an unflinching modern British war film which tells the true story of bravery and brotherhood on the Kajaki Dam during the Afghanistan conflict, and will present the GIFF Peaceful Warrior Award to special guest Sir Ben Kingsley. Feature Film screenings include “Battle Scars” in which a Vietnam veteran and a peace advocate work together to create a path to heal old wounds, “The Millionaire’s Unit” a true story about the flying First Yale Unit of World War I, and many more.

There are Film Blocks on subjects ranging from "Alternative Healing:  Novel Approaches to Helping Veterans Transition Home" (featuring the PBS Craft in America Series), "Survive and Thrive:  Confronting Veteran Suicide", to "Against All Odds:  Displaying True Courage While Facing Long Odds."  A Filmmaker Bootcamp focuses on film finance and distribution with the cast and crew from AMC’s spy show “Turn.”
