The Arts Advocacy Day Conference will take place March 11-12, 2002 and will feature the 15th Annual Nancy Hanks Lecture on Arts and Public Policy and the national convening of Arts Advocacy Day 2002 on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C.
Arts Advocacy Day 2002 is Co-Sponsored by more than 60 national cultural, educational and civic organizations and is held in cooperation with the Congressional Arts Caucus.
This past year, arts advocates succeeded in securing increased funding for all three of the federal cultural agencies and authorization and funding for arts education within ESEA legislation. Arts Advocacy Day is strategically timed to give grassroots advocates the opportunity to continue to shape federal arts policy and to educate Members of Congress. Moreover, arts advocates will be able to communicate first-hand stories of the healing power of the arts following the tragedies of September 11.
Arts Advocacy Day is held in conjunction with the Congressional Arts Caucus and many Members of Congress will be involved in the day's events. Additionally, more than 60 national arts, humanities, educational, and civic organizations co-sponsor this event annually. Registrants of Arts Advocacy Day will receive advocacy training, top-level briefings on trends and research impacting the arts and arts education, as well as advance copies of the Congressional Arts Handbook.
