Convention Overview
Sojourn Theatre, an ensemble-based company making new performance in Portland, Oregon and around the United States, will be this year’s convention artists-in-residence. Sojourn’s work is highly physical, history-conscious, and politically inquisitive. The company is known for innovation through its aesthetic, and through its unique methods of community engagement. In mainstage projects, touring productions, and large-scale community collaborations, Sojourn explores art and its intersections with dialogue.
Sojourn Theatre’s body of work includes the acclaimed national touring show LOOK AWAY, the Portland based Justice Project in a historic federal courthouse, and their recent Americans for the Arts supported Animating Democracy project Passing Glances: mirrors and windows in Allen County, Ohio. Artistic Director Michael Rohd is a recipient of the 2001 New Generations grant and the 2002 Extended Collaboration grant, both from Theatre Communications Group. He is also author of the internationally used book Theatre for Community, Conflict & Dialogue (Heinemann, 1998).
