Americans for the Arts is pleased to continue our work in engaging the motivated minds of those arts professionals age 35 and under or with limited experience working in the arts. Throughout the convention, these emerging leaders will meet with seasoned professionals as well as their peers to advance their skills in and knowledge of the field. By working together, we can cultivate the next generation of arts leaders in America.

Emerging Leader Day

Emerging leader grassroots organizer Colleen Fischer of Fresh Arts Coalition in Houston, TX, has put together an informal Emerging Leaders Day to provide other emerging leaders arriving early for the annual convention an opportunity to get together to explore Milwaukee and network on June 2, 2006. Contact Colleen for more information, or meet the group in the Miller Time Pub (located inside the Hilton Milwaukee City Center) anytime between 12:00 p.m.–5:00 p.m. for some emerging leader creative conversations and networking. No host lunch, Dutch treat drinks, good time fun.

Emerging Leader Network

Connect with the national Emerging Leader Network to discuss how your communities are changing. Join this conversation Saturday afternoon, 2:15 p.m.–3:30 p.m. On Monday morning, 8:30 a.m.–10:30 a.m., we'll meet again to discuss upcoming activities for emerging leaders and talk about your convention experiences.

Emerging Leader Discount

Emerging leaders that attend are eligible to receive $50 off their convention registration. (A discounted emerging leader registration must be paid by a sponsoring organization to qualify for the discount. Only one discount per organization. The emerging leader discount is not applicable to scholarship or special offer recipients, or preconference only and team registrants.)

Emerging Leader Reception

Sunday, June 4, 2006
7:00 p.m.–8:30 p.m.
Milwaukee, WI

Yaffa Restaurant & Lounge
106 W. Wells Street
Milwaukee, WI
T 414.223.0101

Mix and mingle with fellow emerging leaders at Yaffa Restaurant & Lounge, a beautiful Mediterranean experience right on the river in Milwaukee. Emerging leaders will love the plush décor, mouth-watering signature martini menu, and the location––within walking distance from the hotel, with an outside patio along the RiverWalk. Appetizers will be abundant, martinis and other beverages will flow at the cash bar, and networking with old friends and new colleagues will be optimal at this emerging Americans for the Arts tradition.

Emerging Leader Full Scholarship

These full scholarships are available to five young professionals developing careers in arts management as an opportunity to attend the convention and benefit from networking with peers and gaining professional development at workshops. For more information on the emerging leader scholarship and all of our scholarships, check out Scholarship Opportunities.

Emerging Leadership Exchange

The deadline for participating in the Emerging Leadership Exchange has passed. Please check back after the convention to hear accounts of Emerging Leadership Exchange participants.

If you are joining us in Milwaukee, look for Emerging Leadership Exchange participants throughout the convention to learn more about this opportunity. Also, the Americans for the Arts Emerging Leader Council has developed a guide for creating your own Leadership Exchange and provided 11 tips for developing professional relationships at the annual convention. Peruse these documents for information to help make the most of your convention experience!

Emerging Leader Award

The first annual Emerging Leader Award was presented at the convention on Sunday, June 4, 2006, to Jennifer Armstrong. To learn more about this award, nominations submissions, and the recipient's background, visit the Emerging Leader Award Page.

Emerging Leaders Dine Around

Join a few Americans for the Arts Emerging Leader Council members for an Emerging Leader Dine Around (Dutch treat) dinner on Monday evening before the closing reception. We’ll meet in the lobby of the Hilton Milwaukee City Center at 5:30 p.m. and walk to the restaurant from there. Sign up on the convention bulletin board or at the emerging leaders network meetings once you arrive in Milwaukee.

Convention Volunteer Program

Take advantage of the opportunity to receive reduced convention registration fees by applying to volunteer to work for eight hours during the conference. Emerging leaders and students are especially encouraged to apply. For more information and to apply, check out Volunteer Opportunities.
