Hosted by Abel Lopez, associate producing artistic director of the GALA Hispanic Theatre, the Innovator Series allows arts leaders to listen in on conversations with innovative and pioneering individuals working in and around the arts.
Cora Mirikitani is the president and CEO of the Center for Cultural Innovation (CCI), a nonprofit entrepreneurial training and financial services center for individual artists. Ms. Mirikitani worked for more than 10 years in philanthropy, as program officer for culture at The Pew Charitable Trusts and later as senior program director at The James Irvine Foundation in charge of its arts program and Innovation Fund. As a field practitioner she is also an experienced arts administrator and international arts presenter, having held the posts of president and CEO of the Japanese American Cultural and Community Center in Los Angeles, director of Performing Arts and Film at the Japan Society in New York, and executive director of the Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance. Ms. Mirikitani has participated on numerous arts advisory panels during her career, most recently as a member of the Los Angeles Mayor’s Council for the Arts and on the Advisory Committee for the Japan Foundation’s Performing Arts Japan program.
Rebecca Ryan is the founder of Next Generation Consulting, Inc. Ms. Ryan's keen eye for trends—especially those among young talent—coupled with her brilliance in presenting them to professionals at all levels, makes her one of America's most captivating communicators and futurists. Ms. Ryan has been named a "Woman of Influence" by the Business Journal and the 2004 Entrepreneur of the Year by the U.S. Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship, and was a semifinalist in Fast Company Magazine's "Fast 50" awards. A former professional basketball player in Europe, she drinks her coffee from a mug that says, "Well behaved women rarely make history."
Abel Lopez, associate producing director of GALA Hispanic Theatre, is president of the Board of Directors of the Helen Hayes Awards, the American Arts Alliance, and the Theater Communications Group. He also is Board vice president of Americans for the Arts and Chair-Emeritus of the D.C. Commission on the Arts and Humanities, as well as a member of the Boards of Directors of the National Association of Latino Arts and Culture (NALAC), Association of Performing Arts Presenters, Non Traditional Casting Project (NTCP), In Series, and Black Women Playwrights Group.
