Andrew Huang
President
Houston Downtown Alliance

Andrew Huang is currently president of the Houston Downtown Alliance (HDA), a nonprofit organization whose mission is to advocate and promote downtown arts and entertainment, business development, downtown residential issues, and the creation of programming to further enhance the quality of life in downtown Houston. In addition, HDA manages the Houston Theater District through administration of the Hotel Occupancy Taxes as well as marketing and programming initiatives to promote this major cultural center of Houston. Andrew is a graduate of Texas Lutheran University where he majored in music and got his B.A. in piano performance.

After working as a paralegal for several years, Andrew joined the Houston Astros Baseball Club and worked in several capacities for the team including director of community affairs. Leaving the ball club, Andrew became marketing and promotions director for Z107.5, a classic rock station in the Houston market. After a year in the position, the station changed formats to the current modern rock station The Buzz. Andrew was responsible for launching the new station including logo development, marketing, and promotional events. Andrew helped organized the first Buzzfest which is now a traditional summer musical event. Andrew then joined the Alley Theatre as marketing and public relations director where he spent the next seven years. During Andrew’s tenure, the Alley set many attendance records and launched its first website and online ticketing solution.

Andrew rejoined the Houston Astros as vice president of marketing in 2002. Andrew oversaw the team’s advertising and promotional efforts as well as the ballpark entertainment experience. He was also instrumental in the 2004 All-Star Game planning and execution. Andrew’s All-Star Game voting campaign received national attention and was adopted by Major League Baseball and other teams. Andrew left the Astros organization one month prior to the team’s first World Series appearance (he still got a ring!) and joined the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston as associate director where he built a new marketing department for the museum. During Andrew’s tenure at the MFAH, the hugely successful Starbucks Music Series program was launched, drawing critical raves and record attendance of young museum goers. Andrew also oversaw the marketing of one of the highest attended exhibitions in MFAH history, The French Masterpieces from the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Andrew is active in the community having served on the boards of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Galleria Chamber of Commerce, and the Texas Lutheran University Alumni Board. Andrew is currently on the Board of Regents at Texas Lutheran University; the Business Advisory Council for TLU; The Incarnate Word Academy Board of Directors; the programming committee of the Discovery Green Conservatory; the marketing committee of the Convention and Visitors Bureau; and the advisory board of the Texas Bowl.
