Deborah Johnson Hall is owner and president of Johnson & Associates Marketing, Inc. (JAM) in Chicago, a specialist in segmented, ethnic, and urban consumer research since 1988.
Her 32 years of experience in marketing research spans a diverse array of perspectives developed in staff positions at advertising agencies, media companies, consumer promotions firms, and research suppliers. For 12 years before starting her own firm, Deborah diligently served in the market research departments of leading companies such as Johnson Publishing Company (as director of research), Burrell Advertising and Communications, The Wellington Group, and Segmented Marketing Services, Inc.
In addition to national and Fortune 500 companies like Procter & Gamble, Ortho-McNeil, Motorola, and Johnson & Johnson, her client experience includes Chicago Community Trust, Arts & Business Council, The Art Institute of Chicago, and National Academies Press—to only name a few.
She was commissioned by the Arts Marketing Center of the Arts & Business Council to compile and write “Diversifying Chicago’s Arts Audiences: A Progress Report,” published in 2001. She also served on the NAMP Audience Development Training & Granting Program Panel in 2005.
Deborah is currently consulting with the Chicago Community Trust in its partnership with the Wallace Foundation and the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs, helping to forge an innovative approach by funders to strengthen the marketing and research skills, scope. and success of arts organizations to better develop and engage audiences.
With well-honed expertise and skills in study design, project management, research analysis, moderating, and report writing, Deborah has made significant contributions to the marketing industry by expanding the corporate knowledge-base and improving the results of marketing and communications strategies among diverse segments of consumers.
Deborah is a native Chicagoan and completed her baccalaureate degree work at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in journalism. She is the mother of three, a volunteer coach at a local high school, and is active in educational, civic, and church activities in her community.
