Americans for the Arts/Animating Democracy

Barbara Schaffer Bacon co-directs Animating Democracy, a program of Americans for the Arts. She has worked as a Consultant since 1990, prior to which she served as Executive Director of the Arts Extension Service at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Her work includes program design and evaluation for state and local arts agencies and private foundations nationally. Schaffer Bacon has designed and conducted professional development workshops for Animating Democracy, including programs for state arts agencies in Nevada, Illinois, Georgia, and Connecticut; Pennsylvania’s Cultural and Heritage Tourism Program; and numerous arts and community development conferences in the U.S. and Australia.
