Lorene Carey
Art Sanctuary
Lorene Cary, Founder and Executive Director of Art Sanctuary, is the author of three books: Pride (1998), a contemporary novel; The Price of A Child, an underground railroad novel named the 2003 choice for Philadelphia’s One Book, One Philadelphia program; and Black Ice, a memoir. She is a senior lecturer in creative writing at the University of Pennsylvania, where she was a 1998 recipient of the Provost’s Award for Distinguished Teaching. In addition, Lorene is the recipient of the 2002 Philadelphia Award.
