Alan Michelson

 Alan Michelson is a New York-based artist whose multi-layered, multi-media installations engage North American landscape and history.  His work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally in a variety of venues including the Whitney and the New Museum for Contemporary Art, and was featured in a recent solo exhibition at the National Museum of the American Indian in New York.  His public art includes projects with the Public Art Fund, Inc., REPOhistory, and the current U.S. General Services Administration Art in Architecture solo commission for the new port of entry in Massena, New York.

Michelson's work was the subject of a feature article in the May 2007 issue of Sculpture magazine. He has received several awards, including a National Endowment for the Arts Visual Artists Fellowship and a $20,000 visual artist’s grant from the New York Community Trust in 2004. His work is in the permanent collections of several institutions, including the National Gallery of Canada and the Smithsonian. Michelson has taught at the Rhode Island School of Design since 2001.
