Mr. Jones is responsible for the nonprofit Foundation’s vision, administration and planning; including oversight of an annual budget in excess of $30 million; presenting more than 270 performances in three venues annually; and managing 75 full-time employees, approximately 300 part-time employees, and hundreds of volunteers.
Mr. Jones has advanced Wolf Trap's leadership role in the international arts community. Most notably, he has instituted the annual commissioning of new works from a diverse array of performing artists. During his tenure, Wolf Trap has commissioned more than 35 new works in music, dance and opera. In 2000, Jones launched an original performance series, Face of America, which uses the performing arts to celebrate America’s National Parks. This series has received national and international acclaim and was featured on PBS’s Great Performances. Mr. Jones recently completed a three-month long research trip, exploring more than 85 National Park sites for consideration for locations for future installments of Wolf Trap’s Face of America Series.
In 2007, Jones announced the launch of the Foundation’s environmental initiative to take Wolf Trap carbon neutral. Wolf Trap now serves as a leader by encouraging sustainable business practices among the national arts community. Wolf Trap has been designated as a Climate Friendly Park by the EPA/National Park Service. Wolf Trap has partnered with Americans for the Arts and The Aspen Institute to begin a national conversation on the arts and environment at the National Summit on Arts and the Environment held in McLean, Virginia.
Jones is a frequent speaker and consultant on performing arts management issues and has often been invited to address the National Press Club.
Prior to joining Wolf Trap, Mr. Jones served for 10 years as CEO and Artistic Director of the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, General Manager of Clowes Memorial Hall in Indianapolis, and Assistant Dean of the College of Fine Arts at Butler University.
