Come a day early on Wednesday, June 17, to participate in one of eight workshops where you will have more time to focus on specific topics that matter to you. All workshops take place at the Sheraton Seattle. Full-Day Workshops: $150 members, $175 nonmembers. Half-Day Workshops: $125 members, $150 nonmembers.

Creative Aging
Wednesday, June 17, 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

Building from and featuring elements of Creativity Matters: The Arts and Aging Toolkit, this advance workshop will explain why and how older adults benefit from participating in professionally conducted community arts programs. Workshop presenters will give an overview of key research on arts and aging, as well as examples of program design and advice on implementation and evaluation.

Diverse Cultures: Leading Change in the 21st Century

This workshop will focus on tools, services, and partnerships that support the sustainability of arts organizations serving communities of color in the United States. Throughout the day, we will initiate conversations that will carry through the Diverse Cultures Track of the convention.

Engage: Best Practices in Arts and Civic Engagement

In this daylong workshop from Animating Democracy, learn arts-based civic engagement principles and practices via project examples, video, and lively exchange. Find out how to maximize engagement opportunities through program design and community partnerships, as well as how to facilitate meaningful civic dialogue. There will also be an opportunity to share projects in progress and vet new ideas with colleagues.

After the Gold Rush: What to Do Once the Public Art Plan is in Place

You’re hired to manage a new public art program, now what? Through role playing and small group discussions, participants will learn more about how to create work plans, facilitate boards, promote advocacy, develop guidelines and policies, establish good artist/administrator relationships, and manage projects. This workshop session is for individuals new to public art and existing programs. Resources will be available.

Art Conservation and Sustainable Practice: An Interactive Workshop

Planning and maintaining a public art collection puts the artist, arts administrator, and conservator in a continuing conversation about materials, environment, public interaction, and maintenance. This hands-on workshop will invite participants to use real materials and case studies to engage in problem-solving on the themes of materials, sustainability, the environment, budget, and maintenance.
