Opening General Session: The Sustainability of the Arts Sector, Americans for the Arts Annual Report and Leadership Awards
Thursday, June 18, 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
Kick off the convention by welcoming Bill Ivey, former chair of the National Endowment for the Arts and member of the Obama transition team. Bill will discuss the position of the arts in a challenged economy while highlighting potential opportunities for the arts in a new presidential administration. Bill is the Director of the Curb Center for Art, Enterprise & Public Policy at Vanderbilt University and recent author of Arts, Inc.: How Greed and Neglect Have Destroyed Our Cultural Rights. Following, Bill’s presentation, President and CEO of Americans for the Arts Robert L. Lynch will further discuss the critical role of the arts in economic recovery in his annual report and present the Americans for the Arts Leadership Awards.
Bill Ivey’s books will be available in the Americans for the Arts Store. He will be signing books in CenterStage immediately following this general session.
Lunch will be served during the opening general session.

Leadership Keynote Presentation by Peter Senge
Friday, June 19, 8:15 a.m.-9:45 a.m.
Dr. Peter M. Senge, noted author and senior lecturer at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and founding chair of the Society for Organizational Learning, will present the keynote address on Friday, June 19. He will discuss how today’s challenging times require innovative leadership strategies that guide the sustainability of our organizations, communities, and the world. Dr. Senge is the author of the widely read book The Fifth Discipline: The Art and Practice of the Learning Organization and last year’s The Necessary Revolution: How Individuals and Organizations Are Working Together to Create a Sustainable World. His books have sold over a million copies worldwide and he has helped audiences across the globe understand economic and organizational change.
Peter Senge's books will be available in the Americans for the Arts Store. He will be signing books in CenterStage immediately following his presentation.

Closing General Session: Arts & Environmental Sustainability in Practice Featuring the Public Art Year in Review
Saturday, June 20, 10:00 a.m.-11:30 a.m.
Terre Jones, President & CEO of the Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts, will open this session with strategies for ensuring organizational sustainability by putting arts & environmental policies into practice. Next we’ll move on to public art and design—addressing issues of sustainability through the built environment as artists Janet Echelman and Mildred Howard present their selections of the Public Art Network Year in Review, a national program recognizing exemplary public art projects completed throughout the country in 2008. We will close this plenary session with a thanks to our Seattle local hosts and a welcome presentation by our 2010 Annual Convention hosts, the Baltimore Office of Promotion & the Arts.
A CD compilation of Year in Review project images, data, and a flash presentation will be available in the Americans for the Arts Store and serves as an excellent educational and promotional tool.
