The Honorable Anna Somers Cocks was educated at Oxford University and the Courtauld Institute, London. She was a curator at the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) specializing in Medieval, Renaissance and 17th-century goldsmiths’ work and jewelry. In 1986 she became Editor in Chief of Apollo Magazine and in 1990 she founded The Art Newspaper for the Turin publishing house Umberto Allemandi & Co. She has written for the New York Review of Books, The Daily Telegraph, the Guardian, Shawati Magazine, the New Statesman, and The Art Newspaper. From 1999 to 2012 she was Chairman of the Venice in Peril Fund, which restores monuments and works of art in Venice and funds research into the key problems facing the city. She is a Governor of the Courtauld Institute, a Trustee of the Gilbert Collection at the V&A and an Honorary Fellow of Sotheby’s Institute of Art. In 2011 she received the “Advocate Award” by the International Institute for Conservation. The same year she was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire, OBE, by HM the Queen for her services to the arts.
