Thursday, October 13, 2016 - 6:00pm
Art & Light GalleryEvent Description
Marty Epp-Carter received her bachelor of fine arts from Massachusetts College of Art, Boston. Today, Marty is printmaking instructor at the South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities, and focuses her efforts on printmaking and collage.
Marty’s show, "A Loud Whisper," is an exhibition of twenty works on paper and panel covering diverse yet orderly methods to augmented prints and collage. It opens with a reception and artist talk on October 13 at Art & Light Gallery, in Greenville, South Carolina.
In this exhibition she is appropriating her own work, going through piles of discarded prints and bits of personal detritus, looking for ways to weave together an important past with a continuously changing present. A consistent thread in Epp-Carter's work is the desire to point the viewer toward irony and absurdity in contemporary culture while staying true to aesthetically formal considerations rooted in decorative arts, expressionism and modernism.
Gallery hours: Tuesday-Friday, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m., Saturday, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
We encourage arts writers to learn more about Marty Epp-Carter and her work with an in-person or telephone interview and/or a review of her exhibition.
