An Evening of Readings & Carols
Saturday, December 16, 2017 - 7:30pmSt. Andrew’s by the Sea Episcopal Church
The San Diego Pro Arte Voices will present their fourth annual An Evening of Readings & Carols on Friday, December 15 and Saturday, December 16, 2017. The format of the Readings & Carols concert is modeled after the famous Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols service at King’s College, Cambridge, presented every Christmas Eve since 1918 and broadcast live via BBC Radio. The artists pair musical selections with readings by distinguished guest speakers. This year’s repertoire will include Herbert Howells Long, Long Ago; Ēriks Ešenvalds O Emmanuel; Stephen Paulus Splendid Jewel; and Alec Roth Song of Shepherds, among others. Audience members enjoy the poetry and story readings by the guest speakers; the luscious, celebratory music by the choir, organ, and brass quintet; and get to join in the singing of traditional carols. The Friday night performance will be the traditional Lessons & Carols, while Saturday’s performance will be a contemporary twist on the original. These special, candlelit performances are always a highlight and have become an annual tradition for many as a way to welcome the holiday season.
Tickets are $30 for adults, $10 for students with ID, and can be purchased on the website at www.sdproartevoices.org. Children five and under are free. Every dollar raised from ticket sales and donations goes directly to the artists and musicians of the San Diego Pro Arte Voices who perform at this event.
