DCINY proudly ushers in the holiday season at Carnegie Hall with the fifth annual performance of Thomas Beecham/Eugene Goossens' 1959 re-orchestration for full symphony orchestra of Handel's Messiah. Called a “radical rescoring” by the New York Times, this revamped version will fill the concert hall with the gloriously festive sounds of the beloved holiday masterpiece.
“It has become an annual tradition for the Distinguished Concerts International organization to present a version of Handel's “Messiah” far outside the historically informed mainstream. As usual Jonathan Griffith will conduct a large group of players and singers in the delicious symphony-orchestra arrangement that Eugene Goossens prepared for Thomas Beecham's 1959 RCA recording of the work, which has about the same relationship to other “Messiahs” that chocolate layer cake has to a Ritz Cracker.” – The New York Times
