Free mapping tool shows off the City of Brotherly Love's Creative Vitality
Philadelphia’s Office of Arts, Culture, and the Creative Economy has launched the new online tool CultureBlocks.com that maps cultural activity throughout the city of Philadelphia. By pulling information from more than 50 databases and incorporating them into one interactive map that combines artistic, economic and demographic information, CultureBlocks.com gives arts organizations, local arts agencies, municipalities and citizens the opportunity to see how culture interacts with other indicators of a vibrant city.
The data is all taken from existing city, state, federal and industry databases, meaning that the OACCE doesn’t have to gather information while still being able to offer substantial access to the disparate data through one portal.
While the map has a large amount of information, it’s not designed for patrons—it doesn’t include event or arts vendor information. It is instead one of the largest and most comprehensive map-based tool for helping organizations and municipal bodies leverage cultural activity into community engagement and revitalization in the country.
