About the Private Sector Council
The Private Sector Council combines the efforts of the Arts & Business Councils, the Business Committee for the Arts, and the United Arts Funds, along with other local arts agencies that promote arts and business partnerships and increased private sector support for the arts. The Council is an elected body designed to advise Americans for the Arts on developing and implementing private sector advocacy programs, and to serve as leaders to other local arts agencies seeking to connect with the private sector.
- Identify and develop leaders from the private sector for the arts.
- Assist with the development and implementation of a national campaign aimed at communicating the value of the arts to the private sector in an effort to increase private sector support for the arts.
- Increase resources for the arts from the private sector.

Nominations for the 2014 Private Sector Council are now open. There are three seats available for 2014. Click here to submit a nomination.
All professional members of Americans for the Arts are eligible to serve on a leadership council. The Private Sector Council is limited to the executives of a UAF organization or the person responsible for policy and overseeing implementation of the campaign, executives of an Arts & Business Council, executives of a Business Committee for the Arts, and executives of a local arts agency whose mission is to increase private sector support for the arts.
Officers serve a one-year term which may be renewed once.
Council members serve three-year terms which may be renewed once. Former council members may be nominated again after a three-year break.
The Council is limited to 23 members.
New terms begin January 1, 2014.
Participation in four Council meetings each year:
- January 14-15, 2014 (Washington, DC)
- Spring conference call
- June 12, 2014 (Nashville, TN)
- Fall conference call
Representation of the Council at Americans for the Arts events throughout the year.
Active participation in committees, as needed.
Note: If a Council member misses three meetings in a row, they may be eliminated from the council at the discretion of the Council officers. Expense for attending meetings is the responsibility of the council member. Last year, travel expenses for two in-person meetings for each council member were estimated at $3,000.00.
