Robert Schultz is currently Assistant Director of the Department of Arts and Culture for Mesa, Arizona – the state’s third-largest city with a culturally diverse population of 450,000. He oversees two City museums: Arizona Museum of Natural History, and Arizona Museum for Youth, as well as a variety of programs for the Mesa Arts Center: contemporary art exhibitions, community events and festivals, volunteers, retail, administration, and special projects. In addition, he manages a comprehensive arts education and outreach program that offers over 400 adult and youth classes and intensive workshops in the visual and performing arts, partnerships with Mesa Public Schools, Mesa Community College, Arizona State University, and neighboring Native American tribal reservations, theater for young audiences, demonstrations and youth art activities at cultural festivals, after-school programs, and programs for at-risk youth.
Rob has been in the field of arts administration since 1986, and has also held positions at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan; the State of Michigan Art in Public Places program; and the Phoenix Arts Commission in Arizona. He has been on numerous panels, commissions and boards for a variety of arts and cultural venues and organizations throughout Arizona, and holds two masters degrees in Studio Art, and Arts Management. He lives in Scottsdale, Arizona and enjoys writing and playing ice hockey.
