Priscilla Rodriguez
Priscilla Rodriguez is the executive director of the Brownsville Historical Association and oversees operations of two small museums that comprise the Brownsville Heritage Complex. She also oversees operations of a community center and cemetery museum in the Buena Vida neighborhood, one of the most under-served neighborhoods in Texas. She is also responsible for the rehabilitation of the City of Brownsville old Market Square which houses an artist cooperative and a research center. Priscilla supports the work of 30 different artists that are provided studio space inside the Art and Cultural Center of Brownsville at Market Square. Currently, she is overseeing several building expansion projects for the Association, including a teen cultural center for underprivileged youth in the Southmost area of Brownsville and the re-design of the Brownsville Heritage Museum. Priscilla serves on the Executive Council of the Texas Association of Museums (TAM) where she serves as secretary. She is also an adviser to TAM's newly formed Emerging Leader group. She has been a grant panelist for Texas Commission on the Arts, and in 2007, Priscilla became the youngest person and first Mexican-American to receive the Award of Excellence in Museums from the Texas Historical Commission. In 2008, her organization was the inaugural recipient of the Humanities Texas Award for outstanding humanities programs, an award presented to one organization in Texas each year. Priscilla is co-author of the recently released book, Charro Days in Brownsville. She enjoys the rewards and challenges of hiring emerging leaders at the organization she manages, and serving as a mentor to emerging leader colleagues at nearby museums. In her spare time, Priscilla enjoys collecting art.
