Tour: Westside MAX Public Art Tour

Tour Description
Attendees toured the award winning Westside MAX light rail line with the former director or TriMet’s art program, Rebecca Banyas, and four of the artists who collaborated extensively on the design of the entire 18-mile line.

The tour started downtown, as participants rode out to Washington Park Station, the deepest transit station inNorth America. Artists Bill Will and Norie Sato discussed their complex collaborations with architects, engineers, geologists and landscape architects at both the below– and above–ground levels of this tunnel station. Other artsits to work on the station include Mierle Laderman Ukeles, Tad Savinar, and Richard Turner.

Tour leaders highlighted sites to be seen from the train as they rode to Hillsboro Central Station, in the heart of downtown Hillsboro, Oregon, where artists Nanda D’Agostino and Jerry Mayer talked about how their interests in the history and people of Hillsboro shaped this station. Other artists to work on the station include Bill Will and Valerie Otani.
