Public Art: Civic Catalyst
July 15–16, 2004, Washington, DC
Public Art: Civic Catalyst was held in Washington, DC on July 15–16, 2004. Using Washington, DC, as a launching point for study and discussion, the public art conference explored three focus areas:
- Cultural identity and the redefinition of civic space and the use of public art as a tool for the development of cultural identity and civic space.
- Memorials and the federal government: its role and contribution to the history and evolution of the nation’s public art.
- New technologies: their influence on public art and effect on the interpretation/mediation of public space.
Public Art: Civic Catalyst was a preconference to pARTicipate 2004, the joint convention of Americans for the Arts and the National Assembly of State Arts Agencies. The full convention and preconference archive is also available online.
