To kick off National Arts Advocacy Day on Tuesday, March 21, Americans for the Arts sent a message in three frequently read newspapers to legislators and staffers on Capitol Hill about the importance of the National Endowment for the Arts.

An advertisement in Roll Call, Politico, and The Hill featured the bold statement "The National Endowment for the Arts Supports America ... in communities in every Congressional district in America." The ad also included factual data about the NEA's value to the economy:

  • 4.8 million Americans go to work in Arts and Culture industries.
  • The Arts contribute $730 billion to our GDP—which is larger than the Construction, Transportation, and Travel & Tourism industries.
  • The Arts generate $22.3 billion in federal, state, and local government revenue.

As 700+ arts advocates descended on Capitol Hill Tuesday to meet with decision-makers from both parties in the Senate and House of representatives, the message in the ads was a clear reminder that support for the NEA matters to all Americans.
