This fall, the National Endowment for the Arts is giving a total of $950,000 to Washington DC based organizations, one of them being Americans for the Arts to support our Community Visions initiative, a publication that will serve as a policy guide for local arts agencies. This forward-looking blueprint for local arts development in the 21st century will acknowledge the full spectrum of the current community cultural ecosystem, bring leading-edge practice to the fore, and highlight values that underpin effective local arts leadership.

Other DC-based national arts organizations receiving grants are Dance/USA, which will receive $80,000 to support several activities that include its annual conference in Miami and its Institute for Leadership Training; Chorus America will receive $90,000 for its services and technical assistance to the choral field; and $15,000 will support the Future of Music Summit, presented by the Future of Music Coalition.

The largest grant is being awarded to the Kennedy Center’s Any Given Child arts education program, which will receive $100,000. Any Given Child attempts to improve access to the arts for elementary and middle school students. Launched in 2009 in Sacramento, it has grown to 16 communities across the country — from large to small, urban to rural — and reaches more than 1 million students.
