On Friday, Decemeber 6, an open house for the Community of the Arts at Turman Gallery featured artwork created by adult students participating in metal sculpture and digital photography classes. The students in the metal scuplture class had three dimensional steel sculpture work displayed, and on the other end of the specturem, children's artwork from the Saturday art classes for kids. There was a special performance by the "Terre Haute Guitar Club", and guests were invited to enter a drawing to win free spring art classes.

Work from students in the metal sculpture class was the prime feature of the open house. Their artwork explores three-dimensional form using monumental sculpture produced through the creation of small-scale models, also called "maquettes." Students are introduced to the fundamental techniques of welding, cutting, grinding and shaping of steel to produce works of art. This class, one of many offered by the Community School of the Arts and funded by the Unbounded Possibilities Initiative, is attracting a lot of first-time art students attracted to the idea of working with metal. Unbounded Initiative offers non-credit arts classes to the communities in Wabash Valley and it's surrounding areas.
