The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) recently published Tech as Art: Supporting Artists Who Use Technology as a Creative Medium, a report focused on artists and organizations working with digital technologies.

Spearheaded by the NEA in collaboration with the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation and the Ford Foundation, the two-year initiative includes nine case studies and mentions over one hundred artists and organizations working within the intersection of art and technology.

Some of the key findings of the report cite code, computation, data, and tool-building as being core to tech-centered artistic practices. Artists working within this realm have successfully established their own organizations, exhibition spaces, festivals, information networks, and academic departments across the United States. The report also offers recommendations for both the arts and non-arts sectors to further engage with art and technology.

Additionally, the NEA has committed to increasing support of new media art through their Grants for Arts Projects
