Alberto Vilar

A foremost philanthropist and leading patron of the classical performing arts, Alberto Vilar is dedicated to preserving and broadening the legacies of opera, classical music, and ballet by making them collectively accessible to a larger audience. He has focused his efforts in four key areas: renovating and supporting the world’s most prestigious music centers; underwriting new productions, especially in cooperation with major opera houses; nurturing future virtuosos by supporting young artists programs; and providing new technology designed for the arts. Mr. Vilar is equally committed to philanthropic support of education, supporting arts scholarships at New York University and establishing the Vilar Institute for Arts Management at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts to train rising generations of arts administrators and board members. In 1980, Mr. Vilar founded Amerindo Investment Advisors Inc., which pioneered the management of portfolios invested in emerging technologies and supported several of today’s most prominent companies including Microsoft, Oracle, Cisco, America Online, Yahoo!, and eBay.
