Keeping the Arts in Public Schools
For the second year in a row, KRIS Wine and Americans for the Arts are teaming up through the KRIS Wine Art of Education contest to grant $25,000 for arts education programs in U.S. public schools. Consumers will determine the grant winners by voting for their favorite K-12 public schools on KRIS Wine’s Facebook page. Grants will be awarded to the 16 schools with the highest number of votes. Last year’s winning schools are using the grants to purchase much-needed art supplies, help implement hands-on projects, and engage students in arts education activities that would have not been possible otherwise. Vote now through October 31 for the chance for your favorite school to win.

The Connection Between Art and Real Estate
A new building in Mt. Vernon, NY, has created quite a stir in the local community. The luxury residential complex, The Horizon at Fleetwood, holds a partnership with a local arts organization, ArtsWestchester. The result is an installation entitled, “Contemporary Rhythms.” Mark Alexander, one of the principals at The Horizon, states that the exhibition helped increase the property’s marketability and enabled it to reach its full capacity. Creative Industries Span the Globe
Thirteen IBM experts have created a “roadmap,” intended to spur the growth of Kenya’s economy through the media and arts industry. After spending time with various public and private organizations that might contribute to this project, the team encouraged the building of a new “Center for Excellence.” This roadmap is expected to use the arts industry to increase employment rates by up to 10 percent, double the arts’ GDP contribution, and make Kenya a creative stronghold by 2017. Speaking from Experience
"Tomorrow's workforce must act confidently, communicate effectively, and think creatively—all qualities that can be enhanced through arts and theater education. So often, the seeds for these critical skills are planted in childhood through exposure to the arts and live theater. It's my personal hope that Ernst & Young's support sparks more interest in the value that theater and arts education brings to children, corporations, and communities, while inspiring others to give back to their communities in their own way." — James S. Turley, Global Chairman and CEO, Ernst & Young and 2012 BCA Leadership Award winner
