Description:

Rachel Duckhouse’s 12 months Watershed+ Artist Residency, is proof that public art that engages, challenges and excites can take many forms and can leave enduring legacy on a place and its people. The remarkable body of work she created in print, drawing and audio, visualise the infinitely dynamic flow of energy within our rivers, and are testament to her in-depth collaborations with senior flood engineers, scientists, school children, institutions and organisations. The sensitive and powerful way her work bore witness to the catastrophic 2013 floods through exhibitions, events and artist talks, continues to hold poignant and historic significance for the City. Most important her embedding within the City of Calgary Utilities & Environment Protection department forged enduring relationship at the heart of a City’s corporation between artists and engineers, allowing them to share the understanding of urban rivers emotionally rather than just with data.
