Biography
The Public Art Network Award was first given in 2003 at the Public Art Preconference in Portland, OR. Its first recipient was Harriet Traurig, the creative force behind the San Jose, CA, public art program. Ms. Traurig’s contributions to the field were supported by her strategic and visionary approach to working with public space, her commitment to working with and empowering community, her creativity in building intergovernmental partnerships, and her contribution and support of artists and public art programs nationwide. Sadly, Ms. Traurig passed away in January 2004.
