Biography

Kate D. Levin is the commissioner of the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs. In this role, she directs cultural policy for New York City, supporting and strengthening nonprofit cultural organizations throughout the five boroughs through public funding, technical assistance and advocacy.   Prior to her appointment, Levin taught at the City College of New York/CUNY and has worked at several New York City cultural organizations.

The New York City Department of Cultural Affairs is the largest funder of the arts in the nation, supporting and sustaining New York City's cultural life through public funding for programming, operations and capital improvements at non-profit organizations throughout the five boroughs. The Department works to increase access, promote excellence, expand audiences, and advocate on behalf of the profound impact of culture on the City’s economy, identity, and quality of life.
