Biography

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer has been a stalwart advocate for the arts throughout his nearly 40 years of service in the U.S. House of Representatives.  A proud member of the Congressional Arts Caucus and a dedicated champion for the National Endowment for the Arts and other cultural agencies, Congressman Hoyer works to ensure arts and arts education funding in America.

Congressman Hoyer is a tireless fighter for economic development and a leader in creating jobs with an interest in supporting the creative economy.  He believes the arts are a critical component of our democracy and has said, “it’s up to America’s artists to remind our country of who we are.”

In his current position as House Majority Leader and his previous role as House Democratic Whip, Congressman Hoyer helps shape legislative priorities and works to facilitate bipartisan cooperation and communication.  His leadership ensures support for the arts will continue to be a priority in the 116th Congress.  At the 2018 Congressional Arts Kick Off, Congressman Hoyer encouraged advocates to “help lift us up to all we can be as a society that wants to honor the arts.”
