The question of how to facilitate social interaction between special education students and regular education students has been the subject of much study over the decade. Some successful methods and programs have been identified, but the problem has become one of introducing such programs into regular classroom programming. HAI (Hospital Audiences, Inc.) a not-for-profit organization, was created twenty five years ago to mobilize and channel the cultural resources of New York City for those confined to the back wards of the state mental hospitals. Since then, the organization has grown and has successfully harnessed the healing potential of the arts for participants in approximately one thousand human service agencies. An audience totaling over 7.5 million has been reached. On the occasion of its 25th anniversary, HAI held a symposium to articulate and affirm the impact of its work over the past twenty five years
