Last week, ArtsWave hosted the 2nd annual CincySings, a Cincinnati region-wide choral event that pits corporate choirs against one another in a friendly competition. For the second year in a row, Drew Lachey, a celebrity Cincinnati native and arts supporter, hosted the event. Lachey is best known for being a member of the pop group 98 Degrees and as the crowned champion of season two of Dancing with the Stars.

In October, Americans for the Arts and The Conference Board collaborated on two events focused on how the arts can advance business and community goals. On October 6, Bob Lynch hosted forty corporate leaders from the Corporate Contributions Council I at his home in Washington, D.C. for a dinner and discussion on arts education policy. We shared with them recent work in arts education including the new National Core Arts Standards.

The results are in for this year’s “Art of Education” Campaign!  Congratulations to Cascade K-8 Community School of Shoreline, WA, recipient of the $5,000 grand prize.  Consumers, parents, and educators nationwide determined the grant winners by voting for their favorite K-12 public schools through the KRIS Facebook page.

 

Fifteen other schools around the country will receive additional grants totaling $20,000. They include:

The NABE Foundation, the charitable arm of the National Association for Business Economics (NABE), and Americans for the Arts jointly announced that Yili Zhou has won the 6th annual NABE Foundation Americans for the Arts Scholarship Award. Zhou was presented with the scholarship on Monday, February 24during a luncheon at the NABE Economic Policy Conference in Arlington, VA.

This is an idea that New York City-based writer Jessica Gross tweeted at Amtrak without ever thinking it could come true. But it did come true—when Amtrak offered Gross a free “test-run” residency aboard a train that traveled from NYC to Chicago and back. South Carolina Bank Completes Significant Endowment to Local Art Museum

The Palmetto Bank of South Carolina has completed a $250,000 pledge to the Spartanburg Art Museum to endow its permanent art collection. The gift reflects the Bank’s consistent support of the arts within its local communities and throughout the state. The Palmetto Bank Endowed Permanent Collection is a central aspect of the Museum and features works of Warhol and Rockwell, among other notable American and South Carolinian artists.
