Yates Award for Outstanding Advocacy on Behalf of the Performing Arts. On December 2, 2013, Miami Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs Director Michael Spring was honored for his 30 years of service, credited with transforming Miami's cultural scene along Biscayne Boulevard and throughout the many neighborhoods and communities in South Florida. Michael Spring has served as a Board Member at Americans for the Arts for over 10 years, and Miami Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs is one of our professional member organizations.

Americans for the Arts is honored to be one of the featured nonprofits on The Giving Library, an online video archive that connects donors to nonprofits. In this season of Thanksgiving and holiday merriment, The Giving Library is kicking off a $100,000.00 "Share to Give" campaign on #GivingTuesday, the national day of giving, which falls this year on December 3rd.

Nolen V. Bivens, Brigadier General, US Army (Ret.), Americans for the Arts Board Member and Chairman of the National Leadership Advisory Council of the National Initiative for Arts and Health in the Military, was honored on Veterans Day in his hometown of Chesterfield, VA. He was presented the keys to the town, and was guest speaker for the event. He credited his mother with his success in life, saying she taught him the words he has tried to live by: ‘Stand up to speak.
