Americans for the Arts is excited to announce the 2017 Annual Convention opening keynote from Bryan Stevenson! As the founder and executive director of the Equal Justice Initiative and an acclaimed public interest lawyer, Stevenson has dedicated his career to fighting poverty and challenging racial discrimination.
In addition to his work in the courtroom, Stevenson is helping shepherd powerful works of public art like the Memorial to Peace and Justice, which will feature the names of more than 4,000 victims of lynching. In his opening keynote, Stevenson will share his personal story and talk about the crucial role of arts in pursuing the dream of equal justice and cultural equity. Stevenson will be joined on stage by moderator Deborah Cullinan, executive director of Yerba Buena Center for the Arts and a driving force in placing the arts at the center of supporting healthy, vibrant, equitable communities.
