In the city of Huntsville, Alabama and the surrounding Madison County, the nonprofit arts and culture industry plays a vital role in the economy. Arts and Economic Prosperity 5, a new economic impact study by Americans for the Arts, measured the economic impact of arts nonprofits in Huntsville/Madison County, which was one of 341 study regions across the country. Local nonprofit Arts Huntsville served as the study partner for the region.

The results showed that nonprofit arts and culture organizations in the area contributed $89.9 million to the economy in 2015. This figure includes $53.8 million in direct spending by the organizations plus $36.1 million in spending by audiences at arts and culture events.

Allison Dillon-Jauken, Executive Director of Arts Huntsville, is thrilled to have data to back up what she and other Huntsville area residents have long known. "Repeatedly, the arts prove to be a tremendous community investment, providing both food for the soul and food for the table across our community," she said.
