02-11-2011: Before bringing the legislation to the House floor, House Appropriations Committee leaders made even deeper cuts to the NEA and dozens of other programs and agencies in H.R. 1, the long term funding proposal for FY 2011.  The proposed cut to the NEA is now set at $22.5 million, leaving the endowment with a $145 million budget. This dramatic proposal would be the largest cut to the agency in 16 years.

02-09-2011: U.S. House Appropriations leaders introduce a long-term Continuing Resolution (H.R. 1) that proposes to cut dozens of federal agencies and programs for the balance of the current 2011 fiscal year.  Included in the cuts is a reduction in funding for the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) budget to $155 million, down from its currently level of $167.5 million.

12-01-2010: The Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee passed S. 3984, the Museum and Library Services Act of 2010, to reauthorize the Institute of Museum and Library Services. Included in the bipartisan bill were several provisions proposed by the museum community such as enhanced support for conservation/preservation and emergency preparedness response.

07-29-2010: The Senate Appropriations Committee approved a slight increase to the Arts in Education (AIE) program at the U.S. Department of Education, from $40 million in FY 2010 to $42 million in the FY 2011 budget. The committee also instructed the U.S. Department of Education to undertake dissemination of AIE research findings.

07-26-2010: The U.S. House of Representatives passed a resolution designating the second week of September as "Arts in Education Week." Authored and introduced by Rep. 07-22-2010: The U.S. House Interior Appropriations Subcommittee, which sets the initial funding level for the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), approved a $2.5 million increase to for the NEA in its FY 2011 spending bill. Currently funded at $167.5 million, this increase would bring the NEA's budget to $170 million.

07-15-2010: The House Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies passed initial legislation to fund the FY 2011 U.S. Department of Education’s Arts in Education programs at $40 million, which is level funding from last year. The subcommittee bill also maintains the current structure of federal arts education support, grants to model projects, and professional development.
