WASHINGTON, D.C. —Americans for the Arts, the nation’s leading nonprofit organization for advancing the arts and arts education, in partnership with The United States Conference of Mayors (USCM) presented actress, producer, and activist Fran Drescher with the 2014 Public Leadership in the Arts Citizen Artist Award.  The award was presented today at the USCM Winter meeting in Washington, DC.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Alec Baldwin, Emmy Award®-winning TV, film and stage actor and arts advocate, will provide introductory remarks at The Americans for the Arts 27th Annual Nancy Hanks Lecture on Arts and Public Policy on March 24, 2014 at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. He will introduce this year’s lecturer Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and best-selling author Maureen Dowd—a tip of the hat to the 2012 Lecture during which Dowd provided introductory remarks for Baldwin.  The Lecture is presented by Americans for the Arts, the nation’s leading nonprofit organization for advancing the arts and arts education, and is part of the annual Arts Advocacy Day events in Washington, D.C. on March 24 and 25.

Vans, in partnership with Americans for the Arts, Journeys and truth®,  invites high school art students across the country to take part in the fifth annual Vans Custom Culture - an art and design competition to celebrate student creativity and support arts education. Beginning today, high school art teachers can register for their students to vie against schools across the country to create the most artistic designs using blank Vans shoes as a canvas.
