National Arts in Education Week Logo
Americans for the Arts today announced its celebration of National Arts in Education Week. During this week, the field of arts education joins together in communities across the nation to celebrate the transformative power of the arts in education.

Passed by Congress in 2010, House Resolution 275 designates the week beginning with the second Sunday in September as National Arts in Education Week. Americans for the Arts encourages individuals and organizations throughout the country to take the following actions in honor of the week:
  • Host or attend celebrations and register them through the ArtsMeet National Event Calendar. More than 500 celebrations are anticipated to occur around the country;
  • Advocate. An essential part of National Arts in Education Week is leveraging the celebration for advocacy to decisionmakers. Spread the word about two easy advocacy opportunities: sign the petition to Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos about arts education policy; and submit an op-ed to your local paper;
  • Share your story on social media and help bring visibility to the issue of arts education. Use the hashtags #ArtsEdWeek and #BecauseOfArtsEd to share stories of the impact of arts education on individual lives.
More information on these actions is detailed in Americans for the Arts’ Arts in Education Week partner packet and at www.NationalArtsInEducationWeek.org

“Americans for the Arts is happy to join this national effort to bring visibility to the cause and celebrate the transformative power of the arts in education. The arts are essential to a well-rounded education, and we remain committed to advancing policies which ensure equitable access to arts education for America’s learners in numerous ways,” said Robert L. Lynch, Americans for the Arts president and CEO.

National Arts in Education Week is supported by Americans for the Arts on behalf of the field of arts education to bring visibility to the cause, unify stakeholders with a shared message, and provide the tools and resources for local leaders to advance arts education in their communities. In 2019, National Arts in Education Week will be celebrated September 8 –14.
